Andrew Wiggins set a playoff career high as he led the Golden State Warriors to a 109-100 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night, giving the Warriors a 3-0 advantage in the series.
The Warriors started the better as the Mavs struggled to find their shot, an early 10-0 run from GSW allowing them to open a 12-point lead. Dallas stuck with it however and a Luka Doncic treble to end the quarter closed the gap to just three points.
Spencer Dinwiddie’s aggression when he came into the game in the opening quarter helped Dallas bridge the gap to GSW and his continued attacking of the rim allowed Dallas to build a second quarter lead as large as 9 points.
However, the home team would still go into the half behind the splash brothers, Steph Curry & Klay Thompson, hitting a treble of threes late in the second, which allowed Wiggins to give Golden State the half time lead with a dunk, 48-47.
The Warriors have dominated the third quarter in each game of the series so far and Game 3 was no different, with the Mavericks poor shooting becoming a problem. The scoring of Spencer Dinwiddie the only thing keeping Dallas alive as GSW went into the final period with a 12-point lead.
Doncic dominated the offense for Dallas in the final period to try and pull off an unlikely comeback win, the 23-year-old scoring 21 points in the quarter.
His treble was quickly followed by a Dinwiddie treble to close the gap to 5 with 1:15 remaining. However, on the very next play Jordan Poole answered with a three of his own to kill off the Mavericks once and for all.
Wiggins has been great in this series, but Sunday felt like a breakout game. His emphatic poster dunk over Doncic asserting his and Golden State’s dominance over Dallas.
Wiggins finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds, with Steph Curry adding 31/5/11 and Thompson 19/7. Doncic led the way for Dallas with 40 points and 11 rebounds, Dinwiddie had 26 points off the bench.
