Stephen Curry scored 43 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 107-97 victory over the Boston Celtics, levelling the series at 2-2. The victory now makes it a best of three, with GSW having two of the games at home (if a game 7 is needed).
The first quarter was a period of runs for each team, the Celtics starting hot before GSW took over. A Grant Williams three just before the horn meant Boston held a 1-point advantage going into the second. Curry & Jayson Tatum starting hot with 12 points each for their respective teams.
Back-to-back three pointers from Jordan Poole quickly established a 5-point lead for Golden State but the Celtics stayed in touch largely thanks to the scoring of Jaylen Brown. A Derrick White three followed by a Tatum layup gave Boston a 7-point lead in the final seconds of the half but a Kevon Looney bucket meant the lead was just 5 going into the half, 54-49.
A pair of buckets from the ‘Splash Bros’ quickly levelled the scores out of the break, but the Celtics did not roll like they had in previous third quarters in this series, until Chef Curry started cooking.
Steph’s third treble of the quarter levelled the scores once again before hitting yet another 3 to give the Warriors a 79-78 lead going into the final period and giving himself 14 points in the quarter.
The teams traded buckets to begin the 4 but when a Marcus Smart heave, as the shot clock expired, went in, the Celtics led 94-90 and it appeared that luck was on their side. However, following this play the Golden State showed their championship pedigree.
GSW closing out the final 5:18 on a 17-3 run, on the back of 10 points from Curry, his 7 three of the game with 1:42 remaining proving the final dagger.
Curry complimented his points haul with 10 rebounds, with Andrew Wiggins adding 17/16 (career high rebounds) and Klay Thompson 18 points. Tatum led the way for Boston with 23/11/6/3 blocks, while Brown added 21 points.
