Kevin Durant has been the talk of the town since it emerged last week that he had requested a trade from Brooklyn, but things have gone quiet in the past few days and reports of the Nets asking price when the Minnesota Timberwolves enquired about Durant show the team is not being realistic in negotiations.
Reports from Yahoo Sports say the Nets asked Minnesota for Karl Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and four draft picks in exchange for Kevin Durant.
The Nets virtually have all the power in any negotiations and it showed here, with the team asking Minnesota to mortgage their whole future. Giving up arguably the best big man scorer in the league in Towns and the potential new face of the NBA in Anthony Edwards for a 34 year old Kevin Durant. Outrageous!
This report shows that Brooklyn are not really taking negotiations seriously, despite Kevin Durant being one of the best players in the NBA and being under contract for four more years. The way things are going you begin to ask the question is KD just too valuable to trade.
Durant averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds & 6.4 assists last season before struggling as the Nets were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics.
The former MVP has played in just 58% of the Brooklyn Nets regular season games over the past two seasons after recovering from an achilles tear in 2019. He will turn 34 before the start of the 2022/23 season, he can't carry a team by himself anymore we saw that last season.
He wants to play with a competitor but it seems the only way a team will be able to land Durant will be to give up their main stars and multiple draft picks. At this moment it does not seem like a trade that pleases both parties is possible.
