Ja Morant scored 47 points to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 106-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. The victory for Memphis evens the series ahead of two games in San Francisco.
Morant complimented his points haul with 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals. As the 22-year-old went full superhero mode to make sure his Grizzlies got the W. In the process he became just the third player to have multiple 45-point playoff performances before turning 23, the others were Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
Memphis came out with a purpose after losing game 1 and led for the majority of the first half, ultimately heading into the break with a 56-51 lead. However, the Warriors came out fighting in the second half and levelled the score heading into the final period
A Jordan Poole layup to begin the fourth gave Golden State their first lead of the game but they couldn’t pull away from Memphis, largely due to their struggles from three (7/38). The teams exchanged leads until Morant took over.
Ja scored 18 points in the final 6:11, this included an 8-2 run by himself in the final 1:42 to close out the game. A driving layup to give the Grizzlies a four-point advantage proving the final dagger.
Outside of Morant, the Grizzles starters struggled but Ziaire Williams (14) and Brandon Clarke (10) combined for 24 points off the bench. Steph Curry led the way for Golden State with 27/9/8, while Poole added 20 points off the bench.
The series now heads to the Chase Center, CA, with everything in the balance. Game 3 takes place Saturday @1:30am (GMT +1).
