The Golden State Warriors beat the Boston Celtics 103-90 to seal the series win in six games. The triumph is Golden State’s fourth title in just eight years, Steph Curry scoring 34 points to close out the victory.
The Celtics came out hot on their home floor with Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown each scoring 5 early points as the Celtics started on a 14-2 run. However, a couple of Klay Thompson buckets sparked the Warriors into life, and they had the lead by the end of the quarter. Draymond Green’s first three point make of the series was followed by back-to-back trebles from Curry & Jordan Poole to give GSW a 27-22 lead.
The Warriors barrage continued into the second, another Poole three was followed by a layup from Andrew Wiggins and Ime Udoka was forced to take a timeout just 50 seconds into the quarter. Another pair of buckets from Poole & Wiggins meant the Warriors scored 21 points without reply, the largest run in the finals in the last 50 years.
5 straight points from Brown helped stop the bleeding for Boston but 7 turnovers followed to close out the quarter as well as giving up 9 offensive boards in the first half. All this combined meant GSW closed out the first half on 52-25 run after the Celtics hot start, HT: 54-39.
Al Horford hit a hattrick of threes in the 3rd quarter, but the Warriors always had the answer, as Chef Curry started cooking. Steph began the second half 3/3 from deep to help open a 22-point lead.
It was left to Jaylen Brown once again to bring the fight for the Celtics, his 8 points helping Boston close out the quarter on a 16-4 run, cutting the gap to just 10 points.
The Celtics closed to within 8 points of their opponents but never really made the Warriors sweat, as turnovers continued to plague them. The team totaling 22 in the game. With Curry dominating down the stretch to close out the win. The 34-year-old scoring 13 points in the fourth to claim his fourth ring!
Curry complimented his points haul with 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 1 block on 12/21 shooting from the field as he claimed his first ever NBA Finals MVP Award.
