It's Friday which means it's time to 'Get to Know the NBA.'
Today, we are covering the top 10 point scorers in NBA history.
10. Moses Malone- 27,409 points
Moses Malone may not be the most familiar name in NBA history but damn could he hoop. The former 3x MVP played for a whopping 22 seasons, averaging 20 points or more in half of them.
He won his only ring in 1983 as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers and was named Finals MVP.
9. Carmelo Anthony- 28,289 points*
Another somewhat surprising name on the list but you must remember in his prime Carmelo Anthony could score with the very best. The 38 year old dominated as a scorer for both the Denver Nuggets & New York Knicks, winning a scoring title with the Knicks in 2013.
Melo is still playing in the league so his tally will continue to rise and he may even catch up to 8th place, next season.
8. Shaquille O'Neal- 28,596 points
Shaq is one of the greatest players in NBA history and during his prime years he was the most dominant scorer in the entire league. From 1999-2003, O'Neal averaged 28.2 points per game, winning a scoring title and league & Finals MVP during the 1999/2000 season.
Shaq played his prime years with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won three straight NBA Championships and went to four NBA Finals in five seasons.
7. Wilt Chamberlain- 31,419 points
Simply put, Wilt Chamberlain was the original superstar of the NBA. To this day, Wilt is the only player in league history to score 100 points in a game, average 50 points for a season and average at least 30 points per game for the first eight seasons he played in the NBA.
He was a 7 time scoring champion & 4 time league MVP, that won two NBA Championships, one with the San Francisco Warriors and one with the Los Angeles Lakers.
6. Dirk Nowitzki- 31,560 points
The only European player to crack the top 10 scoring list, the big German revolutionized the modern big man, scoring every which way, from dominating inside to clutch three point buckets. Becoming a member of the 50/40/90 club in 2007.
Nowitzki played his entire career with the Dallas Mavericks, putting the franchise on the map with an NBA Championship in 2011, he also won league MVP in 2007.
5. Michael Jordan- 32,292 points
Arguably the greatest player to ever pick up a basketball, MJ was also the most dominant scorer ever. MJ won 10 scoring titles during his illustrious career, averaging 30+ points in over half the seasons he was in the league and 30.1 points for his career.
Jordan was a 6x NBA Champion, 6x Finals MVP and 5x League MVP, the lead star on the dominant Bulls dynasty of the 1990's.
4. Kobe Bryant- 33,643 points
Kobe was one of the greatest individual scorers the NBA has ever seen. He played his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers, scoring 60 points in his final ever game against the Utah Jazz in 2016. He did it all on the scoring front, consistently producing in the most important clutch moments.
Bryant was a 5x NBA Champion, 2x scoring champion, and won league MVP in 2008. He is remembered as one of the greatest players in history but scoring was where he really excelled.
3. Karl Malone- 36,928 points
Malone was a great player and is remembered as one of the best power forwards to ever play the game. He played 17 of his 18 NBA seasons with the Utah Jazz, averaging 25+ points in 11 straight seasons for the franchise between 1987 & 1998. He is one of the strongest players to grace an NBA floor, allowing him to dominate in the paint.
Malone was a 2x league MVP and was named to the All NBA First Team on 11 occasions but never won an NBA Championship despite three Finals appearance's.
2. LeBron James- 37,062 points*
The lead candidate to takeover from Michael Jordan as the greatest to ever do it. KING James does it all on the basketball court but really thrives on the offensive end, from highlight dunks to last gasp three pointers, LeBron has it all in his arsenal. Averaging at least 25 PPG in 18 of the 19 seasons he has been in the NBA, including 30 points per game last season aged 37.
LBJ is a 4x NBA Champion, a 4x Finals MVP, a 4x league MVP and was the scoring champion in 2008, despite entering into his 20th season it seems he still has plenty left in the tank and will aim to finish his career in the no.1 spot!
1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar- 38,387 points
I mean it's no real surprise the Kareem is no.1, the 7'2 center was as close to unstoppable as player comes in his prime, with a signature shot that was impossible to defend and nobody has been able to consistently re-create since, the 'SKY HOOK.' Over a 20 year career Abdul-Jabbar always competed at the top, winning the scoring title in 1971 & 1972.
He is the only player in league history to win league MVP on six occasions, winning three of them in the first 6 years of his career playing with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he won his first NBA ring and averaged 30.4 PPG before joining the Lakers. Where he won a further three MVP's and five NBA Championships.
