Boston Celtics take important road win in ECF

The Boston Celtics became the first road team to win in Miami in the 2022 playoffs, easing to a 127-102 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday night. Six Celtics reached double figures on an emphatic night for Boston.

The Heat took Game 1 thanks to a huge second half performance and they looked to have picked up right where they left off. Beginning Game 2 by making 7 of their first 10 shots from the field, opening a 10-point gap.

However, this great start was followed by an 0/7 run and the Celtics took full advantage. A Payton Pritchard three pointer giving Boston their first lead of the game before a 17-0 run stretched their lead to 11 by the end of the first. Boston finishing 9/11 from three in the opening quarter.

Boston had to build their lead in the first without Jayson Tatum due to early foul trouble. But he came back in the 2 quarter to all but end the gameby halftime. Tatum finished with 17 points in the quarter and 20 points in thefirst half on 7 of 9 shooting.

The Celtics dominating both ends of the floor to lead 70-45 at the half, ultimately out scoring Miami 62-27 from the 7:29 point of the first quarter.

Jimmy Butler led Miami to victory in Game 1 and he did his best to give them a fighting shot in the third quarter, scoring 16 points. However, the returning Marcus Smart took over for Boston to keep the margin at 25. The Defensive Player of the Year scoring 11 points to lead Boston in the quarter.

Smart continued to pile on the points early in the fourth before the benches were emptied. The 28-year-old becoming the first Celtic since Rajon Rondo in 2012 to have 20+ points, 10+ assists and 3+ steals in a playoff game.

Tatum led the way for Boston in this one with 27/5/5, Smart finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists and 3 steals. While Jaylen Brown added 24 points and 8 rebounds. Butler finished with 29/6/3 with Gabe Vincent adding 14 points.

The series now heads to Boston with Miami knowing they will likely need to win at least one game if they want to win this series.
