The Los Angeles Lakers may have three future hall of famers on their team (LeBron James, Russell Westbrook & Anthony Davis) but they have begun the season 0-3 and can not hit a three to save their lives. Just 25 makes from 118 attempts. Three point shooting was a major problem for the team last season, they failed to address it in the off-season, it does not appear it is going to come from within their current roster, so where do they look next?
Here are Coast to Coast's top three trade targets for the Los Angeles Lakers:
- Terry Rozier - Guard - Charlotte Hornets
The Lakers had strong interest in Rozier during the off-season as reported by the Athletic, and that interest remains. Rozier was top 15 in the league last season with over 220 three point makes on 37% efficiency.
He would fill a massive gap with his ability to hit from deep while also being more than capable of creating his own shot. He could also provide scoring off the bench if the Lakers choice to play him like that, as it is another big hole in their roster. He averaged 19.3 PPG last season.
Potential Trade:
- Hornets receive- Russell Westbrook. Two First Round Picks (2027 & 2029)
- Lakers receive- Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward & PJ Washington.
(This trade would be unbelievable for the Lakers and could completely turn their season around. However, the Hornets would be blowing a huge chunk of their roster for little in return. Not realistic but tough to figure a trade without multiple assists leaving Charlotte).
- Buddy Hield- Guard - Indiana Pacers
Hield is a two way talent, one of the best in terms of role players. He made 262 three pointers last season, only Steph Curry made more. He did so while shooting 37%, a bad year for him, given he is a 40% career three point shooter. He fills a gap and the Lakers could get a good deal.
Buddy has long been linked with the Lakers but a deal has never come to fruition. Now may be the time. Hield is currently with the Indiana Pacers, who, despite having a young talented roster, will most likely be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season. They will not be opposed to trading some of their more experienced players.
Potential Trade:
- Pacers receive- Russell Westbrook, First Round Draft Pick (2027)
- Lakers receive- Buddy Hield & Daniel Theis
(Lakers could do this trade just for Hield or could add in someone like Theis, to help get some legit backup at the Center position).
- Malik Beasley - Guard - Utah Jazz
Malik Beasley was top 5 in three point makes last season despite starting just 18 games. 240 makes on 38% efficiency. He is a quality shooter, who always plays hard on the defensive end. He can space the floor and provide consistent scoring of 10+ a night off the bench. The Lakers bench as a whole is averaging just 20.6 PPG to start the season.
Beasley became a Utah Jazz player during the off-season as part of the trade that saw Rudy Gobert move to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Jazz may have started 3-0 to begin the season but they traded away their two best players during the off-season, they will be sellers and nobody on their roster is untouchable.
Potential Trade:
- Jazz receive- Kendrick Nunn, Kelly Oubre Jr & First Round Draft Pick (2029)
- Hornets receive- Russell Westbrook, First Round Draft Pick (2027)
- Lakers receive- Malik Beasley, Terry Rozier & PJ Washington
(Tough to make the money work with this trade without adding in at least one more team. Again this would be an amazing coup for the Lakers & solid for the Jazz but the Hornets would be giving up a lot for a somewhat small return. LA would be getting three players who can hit a three and provide scoring).
The Lakers simply have to make a big move or this will be another wasted season and LeBron & AD aren't getting any younger. Time is not on their side and the pressure is on for James & Davis to step up and for the front office to pull off a miracle.
